چکیده

Chemical composition and physico-chemical characteristics of natural and ex-situ reconstructed sea surface microlayer samples were studied using a complex methodological approach. Surface microlayer samples and the underlying seawater were collected in different seasons and different weather conditions in the northern most part of the Adriatic sea. The techniques used were thin layer chromatography with flame ionization detection for lipid classes analysis, electrochemical characterization of adsorbable organic substances using the ONP probe, and monolayer techniques for surface pressure (pi) and surface potential (DeltaV) measurements, as well as Brewster angle microscopy. Our results indicated higher enrichment of organic matter for the microlayer sample collected in the warm period of the year (summer). This was reflected in the high surface activity of the present organic substances, and formation of a more condensed layer than for the other two samples collected in the spring. Of the two spring samples, the one sampled on a sunny day was reacher in surface active organic material. We concluded that the most important source of surface active substances is the in-situ production of organic susbtances by the present plankton and bacteria, promoted by sunlight, while antrophogenic input comprises a smaller part of the present organic matter, around 10% for all samples. Exploring the potential of complex-vesicle based niosomal ocular system loaded with azithromycin: Development of in situ gel and ex vivo characterization

Abstract Bacterial conjunctivitis characterized as pink eye referred as an inflammation of an eye caused by the enlargement of blood vessels present in conjunctiva, resulting in a red or bloodshot appearance of the eyes. Topical ocular delivery is found to be useful in treating conjunctivitis, but to maintain an effective drug concentration at a site of action in order to achieve desired pha...

Improving Hydrophilicity of Polyethersulfone Membrane Using Silver Nanoparticles for Humic Substances Removal

Silver-impregnated membrane was facilely prepared by ex situ silver nanoparticles (NPs) blending method using polyethersulfone (PES) as the base polymer. A total of three membranes [F1(S0), F2(S0.5) and F3(S2.0)] were fabricated at different weight percentages of polymer and silver (Ag) loadings to compare their effects on membrane morphological and performance properties. All membrane types we...

Towards a Correlation between Polar Surface Area of Drugs with Ex-vivo Transdermal Flux Variability

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the polar surface area and other molecular properties of the model drugs and their transdermal permeability across the rat skin. Few model drugs which are weakly acidic (ibuprofen, aceclofenac and glipizide) and weakly basic (olanzapine, telmisartan and sildenafil citrate) were selected for the study based on Polar surface...
